Nothing can get me down from the clouds after a 38-21 win versus Ole Miss that got Fournette back on the Heisman list. Everything about it made me think I was only dreaming. At one point, bad field position only meant a longer touchdown run for Fournette. If you saw the game you saw what Leonard Fournette looks like in full power, beating people around to the edge and winning the foot race to the end zone, and when needed, trucking a man on to his back and not even losing his balance. As my friend, Zeke, said after he broke the school single game rushing record, “We are all proud of him.” Once again, our defense held the opponent scoreless in the second half. Ole Miss barely even got first downs in the second half, while LSU just tossed to Fournette for touchdowns. It was beautiful.

Despite all the well-deserved hype about Fournette, Danny Etling had one of the best games of his career at LSU, throwing a TD bomb to a wide-open D.J. Chark and making the right throws to spread the defense out so Fournette could break through. When you have eight people in the box, it’s a little hard to run. If we had executed like this against Wisconsin and Auburn, my guess is that we’d be undefeated right now (and probably with Les Miles still as our head coach).

Can we really say enough about Dave Aranda’s stout defense? Instead of picking out defensive players from different teams they should just go with LSU’s starting lineup. With Jamal Adams, T.D. White, Donté Jackson, Duke Riley, Kendell Beckwith, Kevin Toliver, Arden Key, Davon Godchaux, Travonte Valentine, and even Devin White made some hits on Saturday, who would resist. Not to mention them picking Dave Aranda for Defensive Coordinator of the Year would not be a surprise for making all this one of the most dominant defenses in the country. Even teams that beat Arkansas 56-3 (Auburn) were held to only field goals against us. If our offense just does its small part, our defense will keep us in games this year. I’m hoping that even Alabama will barely ever get first downs. I’m not even being optimistic about that. When Kendell Beckwith is done with Jalen Hurts their offense will be scared to take the field.

I won’t think too much about our next opponent, but my biggest concern coming out of Ole Miss was our turnovers (three). Alabama will try to strip the ball and intercept it a lot more than Ole Miss. Three turnovers can be 21 points against a scoring defense like Alabama. Otherwise, that was the most complete game I’ve seen from our Bayou Bengals in a long, long time. Geaux Tigers!

By the way, my own football team, Palmetto Stampede, won our game on Saturday as well. That puts us at four wins and one loss. If we win the rest of our games we’ll be going to the state championship!
